PROFESSOR GUI ROCHA, BLACK BELT
Meet our instructor and founder
Hi my name is Gui! I’m originally from the south east of Brazil, but I spent most of my adult life living in London (UK) where I met my wife, Saskia. When I took the leap and moved to Vancouver with her in 2018, I began teaching my first BJJ classes as a purple belt, and that’s the moment I realized I wanted to do it for the rest of my life. I worked hard to learn and improve my skills both on and off the mats and to be a role model for the kids I taught, and in 2022 I was awarded my black belt from Prof. Filip of Roll Academy.
In January of 2023 my wife and I were blessed with the birth of our daughter Theodore, and this experience led me to want to make a bigger impact in other kids' lives.

That’s why we created Rocha Academy and our on-site after school program; we aim to bring anti-bullying and self defence education to kids and make after school care affordable for families.
OUR MISSION
Skills. Â For life.
At Rocha Jiu Jitsu, our mission is to provide a transformative experience for kids through the practice of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. We believe that the value gained from training extends far beyond the mats, positively impacting every aspect of our students' lives.
Our academy focuses on character development, self-defence skills, and personal growth. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu teaches children the importance of respect, discipline, and perseverance. By providing a safe and nurturing space, we empower our young students to build self-esteem, develop leadership qualities, and cultivate a positive mindset. Through our community-oriented approach, we encourage teamwork, cooperation, and empathy, fostering lifelong friendships and a sense of belonging.
